Students: tips and advice for going abroad [English version]

03/03/2023
Do you want to start your career abroad? The world is yours! But you need to have a well-defined project, take into account your limits (budget limitations, language skills, etc.) and find out as much as possible about your destination and the cultural differences, particularly in the professional environment you are targeting.

If you are having any questions about your project, you can request individual coaching by sending an email to: careercentre@kedgebs.com

You are lucky enough to be part of one of the greatest schools in France: KEDGE Business School. And as you know, all KEDGE students are encouraged to go abroad at least once during their studies.

About a quarter of our Alumni are based abroad! As you can see, the KEDGE Business School network is to be made most of! But there are also many websites, communities and groups that will allow you to identify a lot of opportunities to go abroad as a student.

We have outlined below the methods to improve your search for an internship and job abroad.

Getting information on visas and destinations

Resources at KEDGE

Then for the companies you will have identified thanks to the Community and the Company Listings, you can go to LinkedIn and filter your search by selecting KEDGE in the "Schools" menu, in order to find Kedgers.

  • Le Jobboard – see below ;
  • The antennas as well as the LinkedIn and Facebook groups of our Alumni ;
  • The directory :
  • The news : to read about success stories and portraits of Alumni working in the sectors / companies of interest.

Keyword research

Never underestimate the power of a proper keyword search! You can do a keyword research anywhere, starting with GOOGLE for example: [Supply chain internships in Amsterdam]; then also on all the social media platform you use. You can play with words, do multiple queries in English and in French. Of course you will find our jobboards, but you will also find some hidden gems, whether it is another jobboard with offers that you will not see elsewhere (local jobboards for example) or companies' websites that you don't know. Anything is worth digging into!

For the UK (Visa required – GAE Programme sponsored by BUNAC) however you can apply for the Erasmus+ grant which will help compensate the cost – once you have an offer and the internship agreement you can apply for the grant via : financement.mobilite@kedgebs.com
Link to use to obtain sponsorship and benefit from partner school rate for the UK

*Student form Intern UK  (this is the link for you to fill out your details for BUNAC who will sponsor your internship visa – it costs 789 euros  and then you will have visa fees on top ( approx. 255euros)

More information about the sponsorship

For the USA, the land of opportunities, you can go for an internship or a trainee for up to 12 months with the J1 visa. This visa requires sponsorship and we have a partner for you : Parenthèse who represent the sponsor the CIEE, a very reliable organisation.

NB the cost is high – 1800 euros for 6 months and unfortunately there is no grant to help with this.

For other nationalities, you need to check what kind of visa you’re eligible for and if you have non EU nationality, it can be complicated :

International Experience Canada

Other tools and networks

CCI France : You can find directories and lists of members, as these are French companies with a presence abroad or companies with ongoing projects or collaborations

Myjobglasses : very good for both networking and learning about a company, a profession or a sector. 20% of the profiles are located abroad!

The databases you can access via KEDGE Library - excellent for identifying possible leads: you can search for the companies you are interested in, look at their activity code and you can have the database extract all the companies with the same activity code in a city, a country or a geographical area.

Look out for any paid agencies, whether it is to find your internship, help you with the paperwork, or so-called "training fees" etc. Contact the Career Centre (careercentre@kedgebs.com) before agreeing to any fees (with the exception of the sponsorship fees mentioned above for the UK and US which are legitimate and inevitable).
